March 1, 2009 (Punta Gorda, FL) – The law firm of Farr, Farr, Emerich, Hackett and Carr, P.A. is pleased to announce that David A. Holmes has been elected the fifth president of the firm in the 85 year history.  With 13 lawyers, Farr, Farr, Emerich, Hackett and Carr, P.A. has been providing quality legal services to Southwest Florida since 1924. In addition to the Punta Gorda location, the firm also has an office in Englewood.

Holmes succeeds Jack Hackett, who decided to step down as firm president after serving the role for three and a half years.  “David is an accomplished attorney and counselor and will be an excellent leader of the firm,” Hackett said. Mr. Hackett has practiced law with the Farr Law Firm for almost 30 years and will remain an officer, director and shareholder of the firm.  “I will continue my full time practice of law specializing in real estate matters and also assisting business clients of the firm in their legal needs,” Hackett said.

Holmes, 40, was born and raised in Port Charlotte and graduated from Port Charlotte High School.  He joined the firm in 1993 after receiving his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Stetson University and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History from the University of Florida.  His practice focuses primarily in asset protection and civil litigation with specialization in business, commercial and construction disputes, corporate and business law and real estate.  He is also certified as a mediator by the Florida Supreme Court.   Holmes is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the U.S. Tax Court.

Mr. Holmes is a member of the Charlotte County Bar Association and served as Chairman of the 20th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee “C” for Carlotte County.  He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Charlotte Regional Medical Center, the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Community Foundation, and the Florida Gulf Coast University Charlotte Center Advisory Board.  He is also a founding organizer and director of Calusa National Bank.

“Now is an exciting time at our law firm” Holmes said.  “Our diversity of practice areas and strong client base have enabled us to weather the recent economic downturn, and we are poised to expand on our solid foundation as the economy turns for the better.  Following in the footsteps of my predecessors as leader of the Firm is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
