Terms of Settlement Agreement Announced in BP Oil Spill Litigation
On April 18, 2012, parties to the BP oil spill litigation announced the terms of a global settlement agreement. This agreement would resolve all private claims against BP for damages caused by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. A copy of the 1022 page agreement can be found here: http://gulfcoastclaimsfacility.com/SettlementAgreement41812.pdf.
We learned in a meeting on April 19 from members of the Plaintiff Steering Committee to the oil spill litigation that the Court Supervised Claims Program will begin operating within 30 days from the federal court’s approval of the settlement agreement. Approval is expected to come during a court hearing scheduled for April 25.
